Nathan Dinh is a visual artist born and raised in Austin, TX. They received their BFA in Visual Art Studies from the University of Texas at Austin (2020), and currently is a high school art teacher in the Austin-area. Their work appears as paintings, comics, and zines. They have exhibited at zine fests in Austin, Houston, and San Marcos.
Dinh creates figurative oil paintings, typically self-portraits, exploring themes of self-image and intimacy. Their paintings balance delicacy and depth of color without emphasizing beauty. Through their zines and comics they tell stories of interpersonal-connection. Stories of awkward social encounters, interfacing with others not familiar with their identities, and recollections of past relationships. Each piece is a direct thought from themselves- whether it be a memory, insecurity, or a funny. These thoughts become obsessions in Dinh's mind until they are processed as artworks.
